Legendary Pick-Up Man David Kelly
Team Wrangler | Twisted X are extremely pleased to announce the signing of rodeo pick up man David Kelly to our team of sponsored riders. The Kelly surname is well-known in the rodeo industry with a long line of legendary pick-up men. David hails from the Upper Horton region, where he resides with his wife & daughter on their family property.
David’s impressive rodeo career began by following in the footsteps of his dad, Bill, and his uncle Pip, who always picked up at the rodeos, when he was growing up. So, it was a natural progression for David to start out rodeoing beginning with riding broncs. In recent years, he has been picking up alongside another well-recognised Kelly, his brother Peter, along with his two nephews Brendan & Tyler Kelly.
David credits his dad Bill as his greatest influence in his rodeo career. David’s most memorable moment competing to date would be winning the Open Saddle Bronc ride at the Pokoka Stampede in Canada.
David is best described as a competitive, happy, and easy-going family man and, a fun fact that many may not know, David enjoys snow skiing.
Here at Wrangler and Twisted X, we love to support the next generation of any sport or in this case rodeo pick up that may be coming up in the ranks. We also like to give our professional riders the opportunity to offer some advice or guidance for their journey ahead. As David simply put it “practice” is the best advice.
With western fashion trends being of main focus to us, it’s always interesting to hear people's best fashion tip. We couldn’t help but ask David this very question recently and his response was “Listen to your wife!”
With his unwavering dedication to being one of Australia’s leading rodeo pick up men, David has a true passion for campdrafting, and this is where we can expect to see David for the remainder of 2023 enjoying rodeos and campdrafts with his family.
